Olde Towne Equine is based in historic downtown Fredericksburg, Virginia and provides medical care for horses in the surrounding counties. Dedicated to your horse’s well-being and peak performance, Olde Towne Equine offers full service veterinary care whether you are a back yard horse hobbyist, seasoned competitor, or somewhere in between.
Our philosophy is simple: To do everything possible to make your horse happier and healthier while extending his athletic performance and providing excellent service and compassion to you, the owner.
In addition to routine preventative care, including vaccinations, fecals, dentistry, and more, we offer advanced lameness, neurologic, dermatologic, and ophthalmic diagnostics and therapeutics, as well as routine field surgery.
Should your horse ever require care outside the scope of our practice, we will provide a referral to one of several excellent clinics with boarded specialists who will continue the high level of care we strive to provide.
Kate Moga grew up in Charlottesville, Virginia. As a child she spent most of her free time at “The Barn” known then as Willowbrook, now as Millington Stables. She grew to love horses and enjoyed foxhunting and riding in local shows.
In 1986 she left Virginia to attend Indiana University in Bloomington, Indiana, where she received a Bachelor’s degree in Art History (with Honors) and Political Science.
In the early 1990s she lived in Colorado where she waited tables, worked in retail, as a chef, and flew gliders and small airplanes. In fact, for her own cake-making business, she flew cakes to nearby small mountain towns—Telluride, Crested Butte, and Montrose included.
After a stint of more than two years teaching children in New Zealand, she returned to Virginia, still searching for a satisfying profession. It was then she met the esteemed Dr. Nat White of Equine Medical Center in Leesburg and began doing research for papers on soft tissue pathology and colic while working as an equine nurse at the referral hospital. After a few months she knew she had found her calling. For a brief time she worked with Dr. Reynolds Cowles, friend and mentor, at Blue Ridge Equine Clinic before matriculating to the Virginia-Maryland Regional College of Veterinary Medicine in 2004.
After graduation she worked briefly as an intern in Maryland before being offered a full associate position in Lexington, Kentucky. While living in Kentucky she married her husband, Jeffrey Johnson, and the couple decided to return to Virginia, settling in Fredericksburg. Dr. Moga established Olde Towne Equine, LLC in December 2009 and has enjoyed serving Olde Towne and surrounding counties.
She previously competed in three day eventing at the FEI level. Although she doesn't have much time to ride now, she and Jeffrey enjoy participating in the local running races.
